SPONSORSHIP – INTRODUCTION Founded
in 1985, the Toronto Operetta Theatre is a vibrant company with a mandate to
produce classical operetta, musical theatre and recent works for the lyric
stage featuring professional Canadian artists of exceptional talent. The
Toronto Operetta Theatre’s chosen repertoire embraces an entertainment
legacy that includes the gloriously dramatic and romantic music of J. Strauss
Jr., Lehár, Kálmán, Offenbach, and a host of other composers from the best of
Broadway to Canadian artists whose works have been hailed the world over as
melodic masterpieces. Lehár’s
THE COUNT OF LUXEMBOURG was General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin’s
first choice and it proved ideal for the company’s debut, captivating the
audience and the press with its beautiful melodies in the elegant
surroundings of the Bluma Appel Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the
Arts. Kálmán’s
COUNTESS MARITZA followed in 1986, establishing a loyal audience of patrons
and supporters who have enjoyed Strauss’ A NIGHT IN VENICE, WIENER BLUT
and THE GYPSY BARON, THE LAND OF SMILES by Lehár, LA VIE PARISIENNE, STUDENT
PRINCE, Benatzky’s THE WHITE HORSE INN and Kálmán’s CZARDAS
PRINCESS. The popular Sunday matinee concerts showcase young talent in music
from Zarzuela to Gershwin. Artists of great stature have
thrilled Toronto Operetta Theatre patrons, including Louis Quilico, Rosemarie
Landry, Linda Maguire, Mark DuBois, Jan Rubes, Henry Ingram, Michael Burgess,
Susan Haig, David Walden, Kerry Stratton, and Victor Feldbrill. The Toronto
Operetta Theatre continues to pursue its commitment to produce classical
operetta of the highest caliber. Our enthusiastic public has made it clear.
The Toronto Operetta Theatre is an exciting part of the entertainment scene! |
