A BRIEF HISTORY Toronto Operetta
Theatre is Canada's premier professional operetta company. Founded in 1985,
TOT has a mandate to produce classical operetta, light opera and music
theatre featuring professional Canadian artists of exceptional talent. The Toronto Operetta
Theatre's chosen repertoire embraces an entertainment legacy that includes
the gloriously dramatic and romantic music of Johann Strauss, Franz Lehár,
Imre Kálmán, Jacques Offenbach, Gilbert & Sullivan and a host of other
composers from the best of Broadway to Canadian artists whose works have been
hailed the world over as melodic masterpieces. Artists of great
stature have thrilled Toronto Operetta Theatre patrons, including Jane
Archibald, Laura Whalen, Elizabeth DeGrazia, Barbara Hannigan, Linda Maguire,
Fred Love, Michael Burgess, Henry Ingram and Mark DuBois. Conductors Susan
Haig, Kerry Stratton, Robert Cooper, Derek Bate, Alexis Hauser and Victor
Feldbrill have led the music and the fun entertainment in a wide variety of
repertoire including The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, Leo The Royal Cadet, La
Vie Parisienne, Cecilia Valdes, My Fair Lady, The Mikado, Naughty Marietta,
Countess Maritza and The White Horse Inn.

Theatre is: to promote the advancement of musical education in Canada
including, but not limited to: the production, presentation and promotion of operetta
and light opera; the encouragement and promotion of Canadian musical
artists; the encouragement, promotion, creation and composition
of new works related to the art form of operetta and light opera. Incorporated
