Toronto Operetta Theatre has always relied on the generous help from our volunteers.
Much of this support happens in our office, assisting with day to day functions, or at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. These roles include data base entry, mailouts, telephone
call outs, filing and projects specific to archives, marketing and communications,
production and development. Training provided. As well, TOT needs volunteers to work
in a more creative role to support fundraising and to get involved at the performances.
Responsibilities to be determined per project or assignment.
- Fundraising Admin Volunteer: Assist the General Director in contacting
foundations and corporations for sponsorship and financial support. This role
requires the ability to deal persuasively with key contacts and to assist with
application forms.
- Office Volunteer: Assist with administrative projects including preparation of
mailings, telephone assistance, filing, data entry and a variety of other related
duties during weekday, business hours.
- TOT Shop Volunteer: The TOT Shop is set up in the lobby of the St. Lawrence
Centre at every performance. Volunteers assist in a variety of tasks including
customer service, cashier, and re-stocking, displaying and pricing merchandise.
- Greeter: Welcomes patrons at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts during
productions. Ambassadors are available to answer questions, provide information
and receive feedback from TOT patrons. Training sessions are required for new
Ambassadors.
- Back Stage Assistance - Light Walker - Wardrob Assistants: This volunteer activity provides a unique opportunity to be backstage, and onstage during the
week prior to opening night. Lightwalking requires volunteers to be onstage as a stand in for lighting during Tech Week before productions.
Skills required:
- Enthusiastic and energetic
- Able to work with limited supervision
- Reliable
- Excellent proficiency in English both written and spoken
- Computer skills depending on the activity
- Knowledgeable of Toronto Operetta Theatre
Time requirements:
Fundraising, Office, and Archives tasks take place in the TOT offices located at 947 Queen Street
East during regular business hours.
Large scale mail outs take place in the office and telephone follow up before an event can
take place at convenient hours that may include day and evening calls.
TOT Shop, Production Speakers and Ambassador activities take place at the St.
Lawrence Centre the evenings of a performance.
